The trip to Azovstal

When Russian troops invade Ukraine in February 2022, the port city of Marioepol is one of the first to be completely surrounded. The inhabitants are overtaken by the speed of the attack and the heavy bombing. Their lives in the bustling industrial city come to a halt abruptly. The Russians offer a ‘safe’ way out to Russia, but most residents refuse. Many take refuge in the Azovstal site, one of the largest steel mills in Europe, where dozens of Cold War bunkers are hidden.
